Potential Problems with Infrared Heaters

Infrared heaters and infrared heating elements have a wide variety of benefits and uses, such as high energy-efficiency, efficient warming, and easy control. However, infrared heaters also have some drawbacks that prevent them from remaining the best choice for all heating needs. Before agreeing to use infrared heating tools in your home or business, consider the drawbacks of the heating system to ensure you make the right choice for you.

Not all infrared heaters are safe: The very nature of infrared heating is that the unit itself heats to a high temperature before releasing the heat into the room. This makes the unit get extremely hot, which can be dangerous in small rooms. Rooms where children and pets play frequently are not recommended for use with infrared heaters because of the risk of burning if the pet or child touches the heater. Even an adult can get burned on the heater if he or she is not paying attention and accidentally brushes against the unit.
Not all infrared heaters are effective: Some infrared heaters have limited warming capabilities. Radiant heat works best for objects in direct line with the heater. In a large room, one heater will not be enough to keep the entire room warm, especially on extremely cold days.

Infrared heaters have uneven heating: Infrared heaters work constantly while on. If you sit close to a heater, you may become too warm and turn the infrared heating elements off. This will start cooling the room immediately. The infrared heating unit provides no additional warmth once the unit is turned off. This cools the room rapidly, creating the necessity for constant on/off control of the heater to keep the room at a comfortable temperature.

Because of these drawbacks, infrared heating is not for everyone. Before choosing a heating type, it is important to consider the advantages and disadvantages of each type of heater before making the final choice.
